Police have taken into custody the husband of a 53-year-old woman who was found dead in Pittsfield Township Friday.

Pittsfield Township Police went to the 4700 block of Hickory Pointe Boulevard about 4:45 p.m. Friday after being asked to check on the welfare of the woman, who has been identified as Katherine Porter, police said in a media release. Porter was dead inside the home, and her 44-year-old husband was taken into custody, police said in a media release.

All indications are that’s it’s a domestic related homicide," Pittsfield Township Public Safety Director Matthew Harshberger said.

He said he could not immediately say who asked police to check on the woman’s welfare.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, is being held at the Washtenaw County Jail, pending a review of possible charges from the prosecutor's office. Detectives are still investigating.

Police have not said how the woman died.

The multi-story homes that line Hickory Pointe Boulevard were bustling with families coming and going Saturday afternoon.

Some neighbors who spoke to AnnArbor.com said they heard what sounded like gunshots Thursday night. A man who lives on Hickory Pointe Boulevard said his wife told him she heard the noises. The man, who didn't want to be named, also said people came and went frequently at the home.

A boy who lives in the neighborhood said the gunshot-like sounds woke him up about 10:15 p.m. Thursday.

Neighbors said they saw nothing out of the ordinary Friday except for police investigating at one house on the street.

Nikki, by his own words, "I stabbed her with two different knives until she was dead." Sometimes it is hard for people to accept what they don't want to see.

He wasn't brutally murdered so why would he need to RIP? Who said they don't care about JP? Why is he charged with open murder and why are you convinced he is innocent?

The neighborhood is in Pittsfield Twp., goes to Ann Arbor Schools, and has an Ypsilanti mailing address. The location is unimportant, however - domestic violence and domestic disputes can happen in any zip code, unfortunately.

Nikki, it has to do with previously deleted comments and is very relevent. Your comments upset me because Kathie's death has been very hard for me and I don't understand them. I know you are having a hard time with this though and I somewhat understand that. It is a shocking thing that has affected many. My issue is that my loved one is gone, and is never coming back because of whomever did this. The person you are concerned about has been arrested and charged with open murder against her, not manslaughter. So, if there is the slim chance he didn't do this, he deserves great sympathy and apologies, from me especially. He lost a loved one in a horrific way and it is good that the husband she cared for didnt do this to her. But, the chance is slim.

That isn't to say that the person who did this shouldntbe shown any kind of forgiveness or compassion but they need to be held responsible for what they did. Unless it was self defense and she had to be dead, stabbed multiple times and no help called for, they committed one of the worst crimes a person can against another human being.

Right, she was stabbed, repeatedly, not shot. I will hear no defense of her murderer. Whoever he was and whatever kind of person he was. Her husband was charged with open murder, not manslaughter, right? It it wasn't her husband, I will eat any words I said against him. It would So be worth it.
